Peoples Savings Bank has announced it will offer five (5) $1,000 scholarships to be awarded in May, 2019. The following students are eligible to apply: Seniors attending a high school, public or private, in the cities of Hermann, Montgomery City or New Haven; Seniors residing in the New Melle Fire Protection District attending a private high school or attending Francis Howell High School; Seniors attending or residing within the boundaries of the Wentzville Liberty High School or Fort Zumwalt West High School. Children of bank employees are also eligible to apply.

Last week I was at a local retail establishment to purchase crafting supplies. While waiting in line to check out, I couldn’t help but listen to a conversation between two women behind me. It went something like this:
On Sunday, March 24, at 2:00 p.m., the Boone-Duden Historical Society will present its first program of 2019, “A Walking Tour of Hamburg.” This program, which is free and open to the public, will take place on the land where the village of Hamburg existed for one hundred years.
Rehearsals for the long-standing New Melle Community Passion Play begin February 24th. The Passion Play is the story of the final days of Jesus Christ, from his triumphant entry into Jerusalem (Palm Sunday) to the Last Supper, the Crucifixion and the Resurrection. The play is a non-denominational production that provides a great opportunity for Christian interaction and involvement for individuals and families of all ages.

Passers-by with a keen eye may have noticed a log building being constructed east of Hwy. F in New Melle over the past several months. The building is located at Work Horse Construction, 93 St. Charles Street, and is attached to the company’s existing office/warehouse building. The cabin was originally located on a Backhaus family farm northwest of Augusta.
